The purpose of Try Something New is to help fill the spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional and social needs of God's older children at Saint Simons Presbyterian Church.

Spiritual Needs: Bible studies, Sunday School, preaching, contemplative space, communion to shut-ins, visitation, notes and cards, labyrinth and contemplative activities, garden space (new lot), speakers talking about current issues including human trafficking, internet usage, drug abuse, basic Bible classes, volunteer opportunities, and weekend retreats. 

Physical Needs: Rides to church, rides to hospital visits, food deliveries, CPR and AED training, yoga, self defense, talks addressing aging, parish nurse, and exercise class.

Intellectual Needs: Discussion groups (speakers), book clubs, moyie- goers clubs, Isle of Hope/Wormsloe Trip, and study works of theologians.
 
Emotional Needs: Home visits, singles activities, support groups for those who have lost spouses, support groups for those with chronic illnesses including dementia, structured lay shut-in visitation (in addition to pastoral visitation), offer relief to constant caregivers by sitting with care receivers, celebration of birthdays, and greeting card ministry.
 
Social Needs: Lunch club and devotional, tours, trips, trolley rides, Lady Jane, supper clubs, classes promoting various talents of members (painting, pottery, photography, fiber arts, writing, music) cooking classes where food is prepared/eaten together and then leftovers are delivered to shut ins, plays and performances, bowling, visiting art galleries and museums

This fun outing is sure to bring a smile to your face! We will meet in the Kitchen Parking lot to travel by van or bus to Woodbine where we will enjoy supper at Captain Stan’s (a funky barbecue joint) and then will go at 7:00 PM to the Woodbine Community Center where we will enjoy an evening of bluegrass and country music offered by local performers. This is sure to be a hit!

  • 4:30 pm - Gather at SSPC to go to Woodbine on the church van and in cars

Spirit of St Simons Sunset Tour

June 10  |  Meet at Morningstar Marina at 6:10PM  

Enjoy the beauty of our coastline from the Spirit of St Simons charter boat on a sunset tour! All are welcome to join the try something new group for this fun event!

Participants are asked to bring an appetizer for everyone to enjoy and a beverage of your choice. 

We will meet at Morningstar Marina at 6:10pm and return by dusk. This event is limited to 14 people and payment is you reservation. Cost is $50 per person.

Dinner and a Show

All are welcome to join for just dinner, just the show, or both!

Join SSPC friends for a delicious meal together at Indigo Coastal Shanty, followed by Penguin Project’s Presentation of Disney High School Musical, Jr. at the Ritz Theatre in downtown Brunswick.

Date: June 17th
Dinner: 5pm at Indigo Coastal Shanty
Show: 7pm at the Ritz Theatre
Cost: $10 for show tickets. Dinner will be purchased individually.
