A Note from Pastor Laurie

Dear Friends,

It has been a joy and privilege to serve as your Pastoral Associate for the past 3 years. But I have reached a point in my life where I need to transition from paid staff to active volunteer. I’m not going anywhere, but I need more flexibility with my time and energy.

St. Simons and our church will continue to be home for me. Still, I need to stay in closer touch with my Mom, who turns 95 this year, and extended family in Augusta… my children and grandchildren, who live in south Florida and in Minnesota… and friends scattered across the country. Each day is a gift and each visit is precious.

I also look forward to renewing old interests and exploring new ones – I could spend another 70 years and still not exhaust the possibilities.

When I first came on board, it seemed this would be a dream job that I would gladly have done without being paid. That is still true, but you have made it even more so. Your trust, patience, commitment and compassion have encouraged me at every turn. The depth of faith which undergirds the whole ministry – and the quality of worship and care and program that this church offers – are exceptional.

I will continue on staff through March and April, when Pastor Rachel will be on medical leave. Then my final day will be Sunday, May 17th .

I have treasured our time together – and will continue to do so as a volunteer! You have my enduring love and appreciation.
