Adult Worship
& Music Opportunities
Our adult choirs provide many outlets for those musically inclined. The Chancel Choir, Chancel Ringers, and Chancel Ensemble with occasional Men's Chorus, Women's Ensemble, and other groups formed as needed are active in leading the music in worship services at SSPC. In addition to our music ensembles, our Worship and Music Committee provides opportunities to help with Special Worship Services, Liturgical Art, worship space preparation, and other Worship activities.There is room for growth in each group and for new groups to form.

Chancel Choir
Wednesdays at 6:45 PM & Sundays at 9:45 am in the Sanctuary.
(Takes Place Mid-August through June)Â
The Chancel Choir leads the congregation in song each Sunday morning at the 10:30 AM service. We gather early before that service to warm-up, review service music, and put on robes. During the Advent season, this group along with a chamber orchestra presents a cantata during the late worship service.

Wednesday at 3 pm in the Sanctuary.
For all youth and adults
Throughout the year instrumentalists from the congregation, the community, and beyond enrich our Sunday worship services. There is a group that is coordinated by Anne Marie Stirewalt that meets weekly. The gatherings on Wednesday afternoons at 3:00 pm allow them to fellowship and just play when they are not preparing for an upcoming worship service. This group performs at local retirement homes on occasion. If you would like to share your instrument and musical gifts, please contact Rhonda Hambright, Director of Music
Montreat Worship & Music Conference
Last two weeks of June each summer.

SSPC provides an opportunity for those interested in the worship and music of the church to attend the week long conference at Montreat held annually in the mountains of North Carolina. This conference is usually during the last two weeks of June. Weeks I & II are identical in programming. Guided by the principles of Reformed worship, conferees explore opportunities for vital worship experiences and enriching the liturgical life of the local church. Oh, and it’s really fun!

Chancel Ringers
The Chancel Ringers meet weekly for rehearsals mid-August through May in the Handbell Room on the Ashantilly Hall. Playing five octaves of bells and three octaves of handchimes, they use special techniques such as Shelley ringing, four-in-hand, and mallets. The music and direction skills are between Level 2-4 HMA (Handbell Musicians of America) standards. This choir occasionally attends out-of-town workshops. The ringers have also performed at local venues such as the Heritage Center at the Lighthouse. A love of music and some music reading ability is preferred. Music for Children & Youth
A graded educational music program is available for Children (Pre-K through 5th grade). Musical skills are learned through scriptural songs and music games. From learning to sing songs, how to ring chimes, how to play percussion instruments, how to conduct, and acting out bible stories in musicals, our young people are prepared for serving the church through music in worship.

The Youth Ensemble is for students in grades 6-12. This group is currently divided into Middle school and high school sections and combines when necessary.Â
The "Bell Squad" rings handbells and participates in percussion needs throughout the year. This group is flexible based on the age group's needs and participates in Youth Sunday each year, singing and playing.Â
Musical Theatre provides young people the opportunity to act out Bible stories through seasonal musicals, combining music, drama, and movement to bring scriptural lessons to life.
