St. Simons Presbyterian's
73rd Church Anniversary Weekend

Friday, September 27 - Sunday, September 29

We hope you will mark your calendars and plan to join your church family for a weekend of learning, service, worship, and fellowship. Details and registration information are provided below. We look forward to seeing you during St. Simons Presbyterian's 73rd birthday celebration! A schedule of the weekend's events and registration information can be found below.

Meet our Guest Speakers

Rev. Dr. Brennan Breed
Anniversary Dinner | Leading Sunday Worship

The weekend will begin with an Anniversary Dinner on Friday, September 27 at 6PM in the Social Hall. We are delighted to welcome Rev. Dr. Brennan Breed as our keynote speaker for the event. Brennan will also lead both Sunday morning worship services on September 29.

Brennan’s research focuses on the reception history of the Bible, which traces the divergent uses and understandings of biblical texts from their ancient contexts of production to the present day. His other interests include Hebrew poetry, biblical theology, textual criticism, ancient and medieval visual art, and philosophy.

Brennan is author of "Nomadic Text: A Theory of Biblical Reception History" (Indiana University Press, 2014), and co-author of the Old Testament Library commentary on Daniel with Carol Newsom (Westminster John Knox, 2014). Brennan serves as the Wister Cook Theologian-in-Residence for his local parish, The Church of the Epiphany.

Richard DuBose
Leading Sunday School

Richard DuBose is a graduate of Davidson College and has served on the MRA Board of Directors since 2012. He came to Montreat Conference Center after serving as the Chief Development Officer of Points of Light, the largest organization in the world dedicated to volunteer service. Under his leadership, fundraising revenue grew from $16.7 million to $21.8 million in just three years. Prior to that, he served as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Columbia Theological Seminary, where he led a successful campaign that raised more than $70 million for capital and program development, doubled the size of the seminary’s annual fund, and significantly increased the number of individual and alumni donors. He also served as Campaign Director at Coxe, Curry, and Associates, a company that helps raise money for non-profits, and as the Director of Development at Atlanta International School. Richard, the son and grandson of Presbyterian ministers, has been coming to Montreat throughout his life and participated in the Clubs program as a child. As a college student, he worked as a counselor in the Clubs program, at the Historical Foundation, and at the skating rink. His spouse, Jeannie Cochran DuBose, a graduate of Vanderbilt University, is an ordained Elder, a well-known author, keynote speaker, and retreat leader. They are the proud parents of three children: daughter, Kirby, and sons, John and Will.
