The Sanctuary Singers
Nothing is better than praising God, and the
Sanctuary Singers accomplish this through song. The youth leaders, the
music staff members, the other mid-high youths and I love to sing
praises to our Creator and lift our voices to His glory.
Two music staff members lovingly direct the
Sanctuary Singers. Ms. Rhonda Hambright, the Director of Music, chooses
joyful tunes for us to sing. This cheerful, red-haired soprano excites
us with her energetic spirit. Efficiently assisting Ms. Rhonda is Ms.
Amy Bishop. She is a dark-eyed, quiet organist who plays all of our
songs on the piano beautifully.
The members of the Sanctuary Singers have already
participated in numerous entertaining activities. At our weekly
meetings we enjoy singing and playing instruments. Our recent visit to
the pipe organ room became exciting when the pipes exploded with sound.
And earlier this month we carried exotic bread down the aisle of the
sanctuary while singing in Swahili and playing African drums for the
World Communion Sunday service.
What are our future plans? Everyone is excited
about our quickly approaching Christmas play, “The Cradle That Rocked
the World.” It takes common Christmas songs and turns them into hip-hop
tunes. Hopefully we’ll do an Easter play as well.
I love our mid-high meeting time and our Tuesday
morning devotionals, but participating in the Sanctuary Singers is my
favorite part of St. Simons Presbyterian Church’s youth activities. We
sing and praise God and thank Him for all of our many blessings. Drop
by the choir room at 5pm on Sundays and join in this joyful experience.
