Congregational Care Committee

Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of God

Galatians 6:2

As a community of faith, members of St. Simons Presbyterian Church believe that God calls us to care for one another. We strive to show the love of Jesus Christ and the comfort and hope of the Holy Spirit in daily living and in times of crisis in personal and communal living.

One of the ways we do His work is through the Congregational Care Committee (CCC). Members of the CCC reach out to those of the congregation that need physical, personal and social healing who are ill, elderly, in grief, in transition, or who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith.

Caring Casserole Program

The purpose of our Caring Casserole (CC) Program is to provide a healthy meal to church members, their families, or friends of our congregation including those who are home bound, ill, are celebrating a new baby, those who are hurting, or just to welcome someone to our church and community or say thank you for your service. Visiting someone? Feel free to take them a meal or take one for yourself or family. Church staff & members will deliver frozen meals on care visits. For more information click here.

Prayer Request

Members of the church’s pastoral staff and congregation pray for those in need. To add someone to the church’s prayer request, or to join those who are praying for them, please call Betty Carter at 638-2220 or by email.

♥          HOW YOU CAN HELPServe as a member of the prayer chain and/or send you prayer requests for yourself or someone else.

Congregational Care

The Congregational Care Committee (CCC) links those of our congregation that need our love and care, both short and long-term, with members of the congregation who help provide that care. Usually, care centers around personal visits and calls for those who live in nursing homes and in assisted living, as well as those who are at home. If you know of someone that may need our care, please call Rev. Jann Briscoe at 634-6815, at 269-0212 (cell) or by email or contact Saundra Hathaway at 638-1786, at 270-0351 (cell) or by email.

♥          HOW YOU CAN HELPMake personal visits or calls to those in need of our Christian love and fellowship. How much you can do is up to you!

Transportation Services

Limited transportation to medical-related appointments such as doctors, dentists, eye exams, and for prescription pick up through members of our congregation. The Congregational Care Committee will also seek rides for members who need to travel to a medical appointment in Savannah & Jacksonville as volunteer drivers are available. To request medical-related transportation, please call Saundra Hathaway at 638-1786 or by email or the church office at 638-2220.

♥          HOW YOU CAN HELPProvide a medical-related ride to a member of the congregation. We maintain a list of volunteer drivers. If you are called, it is only if it meets your needs as a volunteer to do so. You are not expected to provide rides anytime you are called for a request. Please consider helping someone get to a much-needed appointment.

Medical Supply Lending Program

A lending program has been created to loan medical equipment and supplies to those experiencing health-related needs such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and crutches.   To learn more about the medical lending program or to donate an item(s), call Susan Blount at 638-6867 or by email.

Food Ministry

The Congregational Care Committee uses a national web-site called based program called Gathered in Love to coordinate meals to congregational members in need.  This is a nondenominational site. You can use it to coordinate meals for someone you work with, a friend, or a member of your civic group or neighborhood.

♥          HOW YOU CAN HELP – Provide a Meal: Go to the Gathered In Love website at www.ekklesion.com and put in the name of the member of the congregation and then sign up to provide a meal on a date that you choose from the list and dates posted. Please remember to read the information for that family to see if thee are any dietary restrictions. If you do not want to go to the website to sign up, please call Saundra Hathaway at 638-1786 or by email.

Card Ministry

The mission of the Card Ministry is to provide personal contact and care through the written word to members of our congregation who are home-bound, have special needs, are in nursing homes or assisted living facilities, are in the hospital or are recovering from hospital stays, or have special life celebrations.

To learn more about the Card Ministry or request a card for someone, please contact Brenda Ellenberg at 638-1714 or by email.

Stephen Ministry

Comfort and support are available to you through trained lay people - your fellow church members who have had extensive training to provide emotional and spiritual support to you in your hours of need. Stephen Ministry is a ministry in which trained and supervised laypersons, called Stephen Ministers, provide one-to-one Christian care to individuals facing life challenges.

The vision of Stephen Ministry, St. Simons Presbyterian Church, is to experience the presence of Christ as we accompany one another through the challenges of life. Stephen Ministry nurtures and educates those who are called to a deeper commitment to care for others through one-to-one relationships.

To request a visit or phone call from a Stephen Minister, call Parish Associate, Rev. Jann Briscoe at 634-6815 (c) 269-0212 or by email.
