St. Simons Presbyterian Church began with a small group gathering in
1942. Services were held in the historic Casino Theatre and the
Community Church Building on Magnolia Street during the early years.
The church was officially organized September 29, 1946 with forty-six
members.
Since its founding, more than 2800 members have chosen to live out
their Christian faith through the life of our church. Today,
church membership is around 1000 members, including active, inactive,
baptized children and affiliate members.
Our church is the largest of the forty-two churches that make up
Savannah Presbytery. Our presbytery is one of sixteen in the synod
of the South Atlantic (Georgia, Florida, South Carolina). Fifteen
synods compose the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) of which we are a member
church.
